Christ commanded us to go into all the World and share the Gospel (good news) with everyone. (Mark 16:15)
You want to be obedient but the problem is, like many people, you don’t know how to start sharing the gospel with others.
That’s why I’ve put together the 7 best questions to ask your unsaved friends, family and strangers when you begin a conversation with them about Christ.
Important ! Before you begin to share your faith with anyone you should pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to the right person (person of peace) and to give him a receptive heart. Ask God to show His love and power and to give you wisdom as you share the good news.
Here’s the 7 + best questions to ask to begin to share the Gospel
1. Did you know God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life?
This is a good way to show God’s love or purpose for someone’s life. I usually use it when passing out a tract or card. Here’s some more ways to implement this question:
a. Cru.org explains how to use this question in a series called Would you like to know God personally? …
What does it take to begin a relationship with God? Devote yourself to unselfish religious deeds? Become a better person so that God will accept you?
b. Give them a business card that looks like this sample:
Step 1 starts out by stating,
“God loves you and has a plan for you!”
The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, [Jesus Christ], that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
2. Are you a Christ follower?
I almost never ask someone if they are a Christian because they associate that with going to church, tradition or good works.
Instead ask them if they follow or are obedient to Christ and His commands.
3. If God were to do a miracle in your life, what would it be?
Can I pray with you for God to do that?
This is my favorite question(s) to ask, especially when talking to strangers. It’s a good way to lead into praying, especially since many people respond with a sickness they may have. Expect God to show his power as you pray for the person.
Then follow-up with,
“Can I tell you about the biggest miracle that happened in my life?”
Once you get permission share your 3 minute testimony.
Read this week’s Facebook post as I asked Orbey what the biggest miracle in his life would be….
Sometimes God just puts people in your path. … ..literally…
Today, after taking the path to the top of the mountain…
4. Hi, my name is Greg, “God healed my back and I am looking for sick people to pray for. Do you have a pain or sickness in your body I can pray for?”
This is a direct question that I love to use when praying for and expecting God to heal a sick person.
- expect God to show His healing power
- pray a short prayer (less than a minute)
- Don’t close your eyes, look at their face to see what’s happening.
- Ask if the pain is gone
- If they still have the pain, pray again.
- ask and pray again until they are healed
- Give Glory to God
5. If you were to die today do you think you would go to heaven or hell?
This is my “go to” question for helping a person discover he has a problem with sin.
Most of the time the person either flatly says he will go to hell or says he is basically a good person or does good works.
Follow up by showing the person he is a sinner and by telling him how he can be sure he can go to heaven.
Use the Word of God to show and convict of sin.
You especially want to use the 10 commandments and the New Testament explanation (see questions 6 & 7)
Ask, “Can I share with you why I’m sure I’ll go to heaven when I die”
Share your testimony and also share that you are sure you will go to Heaven because:
- You accepted what Christ did on the cross for you
- You repented
- You were baptized
- Christ is now Lord of your life
6. Tell me, what do you think happens after somebody dies?
What resources did you use to get that information?
7. We’re asking questions to find out if you’re a good person or a bad person.
Are you a good person according to God’s standards?
And if so, are you good enough to go to heaven?
Respond to all questions in #6 & #7 by proving the person is guilty of sin and will not go to heaven unless he repents and begins to follow Christ.
“If you let me ask you a few questions I can tell you right way if you’re good enough to go to heaven?”
They also provide a free printable tract with the same simple 8 question test used on needGod.com.
The test shows how you stand up when judged by God’s Ten Commandments.
After going through the test ask,
“So, if God judges you by that standard would you be innocent or guilty of breaking His Commandments?”
What do you do after you ask these questions and begin to share the Gospel?
I’ve shared with you the questions I use to share the Good news with people. But there is still more. What do you do next?
You still need to explain the problem and give the person an opportunity to respond. The person also needs to know exactly what to do to begin to follow Christ.
I’ve put together a field guide to help you to continue to share your faith. I’m giving it away at no cost in exchange for your email address. I ask for your email address because I send out inspirational e-newsletters every Saturday. You can find an archive of the emails here.
